Super Mario: The Mystery of HeartGold and SoulSilver (Japanese: スーパーマリオ と ミラージュ ファイターズ: ルギア と ホウオウ Super Mario and the Mirage Fighters: Lugia and Ho-oh; officially Mario and the Chaos Fighters: Lugia and Ho-Oh in Japanese) is the first fandom and an un-notable comic. It was first received an idea by TheShinyMew when she was imagine something on what happens to other characters by chaos. Characters like Shadow the Hedgehog are featured in this comic, and it fully introduces the fan-made characters like Maria and Maxim. As indicated by the title reference of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the PokémonLugia and Ho-Oh plays a larger role in this comic. Chaos, Skull Kid, and ChaoCelebi also appear, though Celebi is only a cameo role as one of the Chao's evolutions. The comic has, much like a game Pokémon Purple, also been published in a page form around the internet. The special was advertised in the Super Jump Punch! poster as Mario and the Purple Blast. This suggests the special was intended to promote the hacked game, Pokémon Purple, which was unfortunately delayed. As a result, the special was changed to be named after the combination of three games that did come during the same year, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver.
Metreon City, a town where water and greenery, old streets and modern buildings, coexist in beautiful harmony during the present day. Intending to watch the "Battle Cup" being held there, Mario, Sonic, and company head for Metreon City. On the way, they meet and join up with Lugia and Ho-Oh, two Pokémon said to be searching for their brothers.
Although Pokémon Purple was a hacked game, it can still distributed. People who pre-ordered this comic received the Shadow legendary birds; Articuno, Zapdos or Moltres. A Shadow Lugia and an Arceus could also be downloaded in the comic, but this did not required pre-ordered the comic. Also, Victini and the Mystery Orb could be downloaded over Mystery Event after the comic's release.
This comic marks the first time all five of the legendary birds appear at the same time in the comic, and the first time Lugia and Ho-Oh gets a starring role in a comic.
This is also the first time Shadow Pokémon have a major role in a comic.
Several moves were used by Pokémon in this comic that were not yet available in the games. Shadow Articuno used Ice Burn, Shadow Zapdos used Fusion Bolt, Shadow Moltres used Fusion Flare, and Victini, itself a Pokémon not available yet, used V-Create.
This is the only comic which does not feature the main Pokémon on the cover. However, Lugia and Ho-Oh does appear.
The release of the comic had an ad of the second Smash comic at the end of the page and came with a free Lugia and Ho-Oh trading card.
Professor E.Gadd's computer's task-bar area features Energy symbols from the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
This is the only comic thus far that only has one Dragon Quest character present in it.
