Pokémon Purple (Japanese: ポケットモンスターは、パープル Pocket Monsters Purple) is a hack of Pokémon Ruby version that the story continues in Hoenn, with the player's starting area being Littleroot Town. While the games feature several expansions in key areas, the overall plot follows the same direction as the original Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, with Team Magma capturing the legendary Darkrai. Some wild battle aspects exclusive to Ruby and Sapphire are also included, such as the battle with a Mewtwo wearing an armor similar to that from the Pokémon anime. Purple can link up with Ruby and Sapphire, but the hacked Pokémon will transform if traded.

ShadowLugiaGBA

Shadow Lugia from Pokémon XD made its second GBA appearance.

Purple features some of the 4th generation Pokémon of the Sinnoh region included such as Shinx and Buizel, as well as the Lucario event with the use of the Aura Ticket. It also features 5th generation Pokémon of the Unova region such as Victini.

The crystallized Mew event will be also triggered with the Mystery Orb, which is accessed through a Gameshark code and the Nintendo Promotions. XD001, also known as Shadow Lugia from Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, will make another appearance, along with the new Shadow Pokémon such as Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.

Game changesEdit

Later, Shrimp!

The word "shrimp" was used.

  • The Aura Ticket is an event key item that allow Lucario to be encountered. It has a similar function of the Eon Ticket being transformed.
  • Like the Aura Ticket, the Mystery Orb is an event key item that allow the crystallized Mew to be encountered. It also features several crystal Pokémon.
  • Some Pokémon sprites and icons are transformed into Black and White-styled 4th and 5th generation Pokémon sprites and icons, such as Shaymin and Victini.
  • Item names are now changed. The infos of these are also changed. The real-world brand names are now used.
  • The wild battle script on some Pokémon, such as a Rattata hidden in Mt. Pyre.
  • Regirock, Regice, and Registeel appear as the starter Pokémon, although their levels are 10 instead of 5.
  • There are NPC and dialogs that says the word "Shrimp" often. Shrimp is probably not present in Ruby and Sapphire version. This is also happened in Super Luigi 64 and Yoshi's Ultimate Island.
  • Depending on the Beta version, the games are slightly changed due to the numbers of 1, 2, 3, and so on.
  • Some Pokémon changes colors and types, such as a pink Smeargle being an Unknown-type.
  • Many move names has been changed, such as changing Psycho Boost to Psy Blast.
  • Many colored Pokémon, such as the spotted Chatot, were inhabited in the Hoenn region.
  • New areas, such as Darkside Cave, Torn Tower, Metreon Cave, Cyber Cave, Unown Ruins, Metreon Way, Mystic Island, and Aura Island.
  • There were many powerful Pokémon inhabited in these new areas. Here are some examples:

Although Pokémon Purple was a hacked game, it can still distributed. People who pre-ordered the Super Mario: The Mystery of HeartGold and SoulSilver comic received the Shadow legendary birds; Articuno, Zapdos or Moltres. A Shadow Lugia and an Arceus could also be downloaded in the comic, but this did not required pre-ordered the comic. Also, Victini and the Mystery Orb could be downloaded over Mystery Event after the comic's release.

Illegal sales Edit

PokémonPurple

The illegal cartridge has been taken down by the uploader.

The especially friendly graphics and original story of this hack have caused it to be sold illegally in international eBay auctions and in some special shops. The origin of these pirate cartridges seems to be came from Hong Kong, but this is not known for certain. In the United States (this hack is in English) it is being distributed from Europe without any permission from or notification to the author, who is against the sale of a free work. It seems to be the contact that Nintendo may sue the author after finding a cartridge that is found at GameStop or other official stores after being discovered by the policemen.

TriviaEdit

  • This is the one of the 10 Generation III games that is used to feature 4th Generation Pokémon.
  • This game was created by Crystal Franks with the use of the Pokémon Ruby engine.
  • It is the second game to access websites like Pokécommunity. The first one is Pokémon Quartz.
  • The Pokédex entry makes a reference from the comic, Super Mario: The Mystery of HeartGold and SoulSilver, by saying things such as Pulseman and Metreon City. However, this comic is also referenced when a sign (right next to Metreon Cave) says that Mario went to Hoenn to meet Shadow Lugia. This was also happened in Super Luigi 64.
    • The Pokédex states that Mew puts inflation spells on everyone, also makes a reference of this comic.
  • The video game characters made a couple of cameo appearances, such as the statues of Mega Man in Lilycove City.
  • In the Lilycove City art museum, there was a woman who recently have a talking, telepathic Azurill who plays magic tricks.
    • Star Bomber's lines from Bomberman Land Touch! 2 was shown when the player talks to Azurill.
