Metreon City is the fictional capital city of the equally fictitious planet Mubix. It only appears in the Super Mario: The Mystery of HeartGold and SoulSilver comic. In the Super Mario: The Mystery of HeartGold and SoulSilver comic, Metreon and its surrounding isles, Gold and Silver City, are connected to the balance of nature via the legendary Pokémon Lugia, Shadow Lugia, Ho-Oh, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Arceus. It was based on LaRousse City from Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys.
Metreon appears to be a cultural center for the Mubix because of its many festivals. One such festival is the annual Legendary Carnival. For centuries, the locals have performed a ceremony honoring the prophesied Powerful One that would tame Arceus should they release their might on the world. The locals dress up in traditional attire, apparently for historical purposes, but some in the younger generation attribute the preservation effort to the resulting tourism.
According to Professor Oak and Toadsworth, ancient writings from many different cultures name the area around this region as the source of all the waters of the world and perhaps life itself.
Places of interestEdit
The town is the centerpiece of Metreon City's annual festivities honoring the Powerful One who is supposed to bring harmony to the fighting mirage Pokémon and help the Immortal God of Destruction stop fighting. It is relatively modern, however, it retains its native traditions, with a totem pole at the town center. During the festival, a large bazaar is set up, where people can buy souvenirs for the occasion.
The centerpoint of the carnival is a large house, where a banquet is set up in honor of the Powerful One. Each year, a person is selected from the crowd to play the part of the Chosen One, journeying to Gold and Silver Cities to retrieve the two treasures there. At the end, the anthromorphic hedgehog plays a song on her flute, and the event ends for another year.
A large shrine is present on the heart of Metreon, facing Silver and Gold Cities, and is where the "Powerful One" is supposed to place the two treasures. Stone structures are set up around the altar in which the treasures are placed, and flowers grow all around. The Shadow Legendary Bird Pokémon, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, lives here. Maxim the Hedgehog also makes his residence here.
Gold City is the northeasternmost of the three cities that make up the immediate area, and is the home of the legendary Ho-oh. The glowing orb of Gold City is located in a small altar that overlooks a tower.
The middle of the two cities, Silver City is the tallest of the two with a silver mountain stretching up far into the clouds. This is due to the presence of Lugia and its shadow self, who keeps the temperature high. Deep inside a cave, there is an altar, much like on Gold City, holding the glowing orb of Silver City.
